NAVITIME receives the GOOD DESIGN AWARD BEST 100 for its Bus Data Consolidation Project

Tokyo, Japan - October 3, 2018 - NAVITIME JAPAN's "Bus Data Consolidation Project" has been awarded the "GOOD DESIGN AWARD BEST 100," which is given to highly evaluated candidates out of all the Good Design Award winners. NAVITIME has won the Good Design Award three times to date (for NAVITIME in 2007; for Truck Car Navi and NAVITIME Mileage in 2016), but this is the first time to achieve the BEST 100.

The Bus Data Consolidation Project was launched in 2006, with the goal to collect route bus operation data (timetables, routes, bus stop locations, etc.) from all 515 operators in Japan. CEO and President Dr. Keisuke Onishi comments that "we set a goal to collect 100% bus data in 2006, and it took us eleven years to accomplish this goal. Our motivation to endure this great task were the many requests we received from our users to enhance bus data, and the desire to contribute to the communities where buses are the main method of daily transportation and tourism.

Juries have commented on the project as follows: "In a country where multiple companies operate their buses in overlapping areas, steady research and efforts (including field research) to collect data of all 515 companies and digitalizing them to create this bus database is a noteworthy achievement. Furthermore, regardless of the huge size of this database, the system design is well thought out with a simple and straightforward interface; is highly useful in the way information is presented (such as showing buses from varying operators with the same destination); and as a result, contributes in promoting the usage of buses.
