NAVITIME JAPAN Launches App to Search and Display Train Stations by Station-Numbering Codes

Now Visitors Can Easily Find 970 Railway Stations around Tokyo  by Inputting Assigned Station-numbering

Codes on 16 Railway Companies' Routes, Such as JR, Private Lines and Tokyo Metro

TOKYO, Japan - October 4, 2016 - NAVITIME JAPAN Co. Ltd. today further expanded its "NAVITIME for Japan Travel" services. Staring from today, an Android navigation app can be downloaded, which will enable visitors from overseas to search for train stations by inputting the assigned station-numbering codes instead of the station names. This means that visitors, when using the app, can search for 970 stations along 80 lines operated by 16 railway companies in and around the Tokyo Region. The 970 stations include those along routes operated by JR, Tokyo Metro and private lines, such as those running in the Hakone Region that is extremely popular with visitors from overseas. In addition, the service will be further expanded over time.

Station-numbering codes are alpha numeric, containing one letter of the alphabet and a number. Each station is assigned its own specific numbering code, which is displayed together with its station name at stations and on electronic bulletin boards inside train cars. These numbering codes make it simpler and easier for visitors to find the station where they want to go when traveling. NAVITIME JAPAN's CEO, Keisuke Onishi, was pleased to add, "The purpose of this service is to make it even easier for the ever increasing number of overseas visitors to use rail services and travel with greater ease and peace of mind". The launch of this latest service is the result of the way companies' initiative.

The release of this latest NAVITIME for Japan Travel app makes it possible for users to search for the stations where they want to go, simply by inputting the assigned stationed-numbering codes. When entering the search keywords, the app has the ability to provide automatic suggestions for stations. In addition, the search display shows details such as the travel routes, stops/stations along the way, and the station-numbering codes.

The station-numbering codes displayed on smart-phone screens have the same look as the actual numbering codes displayed in train stations. This makes it easier for users to check where to get on and off the trains. Also, simplifying the search entries is another advantage of this app, as it reduces the possibility of users' making mistakes when entering text, which is a great feature built-in to the app to further increase convenience and usability.
